Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

Brew Journal is an independent app developed by Edouard Q. If you have any questions about this policy, see the contact section at the bottom.

2. What data we collect

Authentication

When you sign in with Google, we receive your Google account name, email address, and profile picture. This is used only to identify your account and is never shared with third parties.

Brew data

All content you enter in the app — coffees, grinders, brew sessions, recipes, and notes — is stored locally on your device using an encrypted SQLite database. If you are signed in, this data is also synced to Google Firestore under your personal account path (/users/{your_uid}/) so you can recover it if you switch devices.

Camera & photos

The app may request camera or photo library access when you choose to add a photo to a coffee profile or scan a coffee bag label. Images are stored locally on your device only. They are never uploaded to any server.

3. What we do NOT collect

• We do not collect analytics or usage statistics
• We do not collect crash reports automatically
• We do not use advertising SDKs or tracking libraries
• We do not sell or share your data with any third party
• We do not collect your location

4. Third-party services

Brew Journal uses the following third-party services, each governed by their own privacy policy:

• Google Sign-In — for authentication. Google Privacy Policy
• Google Firestore — for cloud backup of your brew data. Firebase Privacy Policy
• Google ML Kit — for on-device label scanning (OCR). ML Kit processes images entirely on your device; no image data is sent to Google.

5. Data retention and deletion

Your local data remains on your device until you uninstall the app or clear app data in your Android settings.

Your Firestore data is retained as long as your account exists. You can request full deletion of your account data at any time — see section 6 below.

6. Your right to erasure (GDPR Art. 17)

If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have the right to request the permanent deletion of all personal data we hold about you. This includes your Google account information and all brew data stored in our cloud database.

Note: deleting your cloud data does not automatically uninstall the app or remove data stored locally on your device. To remove local data, uninstall the app or clear app storage in your Android settings (Settings → Apps → Brew Journal → Storage → Clear data).

7. Children's privacy

Brew Journal is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent version. Continued use of the app after any change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
